Bracelet Final Cut and Assembly - OBDF 211

Image
The process of making this bracelet was slightly more complicated that I had imagined. It was difficult to indent the non-perforated sections without bending or breaking the other parts because of how thin the metal is. however, I am happy with the size and shape of it. If i were to make it again I think I would make the perforations smaller and probably go about the finishing in a slightly different way!

I have labeled my intended process. One thing I’m still not sure of is size and material thickness, I will need help with figuring out optimal thickness for walls and I need to see the clock hands to visualize overall size!  I intend to use mostly glue or resin as attachments, along with fit connections for the drawers. Once I finalize size I will decide what I use for the drawers handles, they may end up being screwed in.

Clock Brainstorming - OBDF211

I am struggling to conceptualize how to make these clocks, and it's effecting my ability to come up with ideas I am happy with. These are initial ideas, but I am unsure about my relationship to any of them, and I also have a lot of doubt that I will be able to execute any of the ideas.

Prototype and Wazer Guide - OBDF 211

After laser cutting the file, I decided that I was unhappy with the parts the fold inwards and chose to widen the band a bit. I also chose to modify where the perforation lines were, and I intend to score rather than have as much perforation as there is on my paper model. I made sure my corners lined up properly with the kerf, as the paper model ended up with imprecise diamond areas due to an overlap between my perforation lines and the section that was cut away.

The process of unfolding the bracelet was fairly straightforward once I retried on the school computers, my laptop struggled with the angle snaps. I had to change the shape and size of the parts that fold inward. Originally when they unfolded flat they didn't meet along the centre fold. Once I figured out how to have them meet cleanly in the centre of the gap the rest of the process went fairly smoothly.

Bracelet Model - OBDF 211

I began with the individual folded rectangle pieces and used the rotate tool to create 5 additional sections lined up perfectly. I used the rotate 3D tool to create the bracelet shape. Redid every other diamond area to have a convex surface.  I struggled with making sure that all the sections lined up properly and would fill correctly. It was also difficult to create an accurate scale. I think there are definitely easier ways to form this object than I took, but I am still struggling to navigate the software.
